Summer Research Program

Each summer, Marymount University’s DISCOVER Research Center awards student research fellowships to 10-15 Marymount students. These fellowships, available to both undergraduate and graduate students, provide a $1500 award for students to work one-on-one with a faculty mentor on a research project or creative endeavor related to the faculty mentor's scholarly agenda. Students are selected for this award through a competitive process.

For summer 2020, the Student Research Fellowship program will occur through remote mentorship and collaboration strategies. We encourage students to apply.  It promises to be a very positive learning experience.

This 6.5 week program begins May 18, 2020 and ends June 30, 2020.  In addition to the research activities, Fellows participate in weekly community building, educational, and information sharing sessions created specifically for the Fellows program. Students are expected to dedicate 12-15 hours weekly to the Fellowship during this 6.5 week period.

Student applications for summer 2020 are open now and will close April 20, 2020.

How do you find a faculty mentor and project?

Students interested in this fellowship opportunity should go to the database of faculty summer research topics to review the list of projects available for summer 2020.  Students can apply for up to three different Fellowship projects. No more than one fellowship per student will be awarded. New projects may be added through April 7, 2020, so check back frequently.

To be eligible for a Summer Research Program grant, students must be in good academic standing.  Students who will graduate in August of the same year as the fellowship are not eligible.

To acces a 2020 application form, click here. The application form includes questions in two areas:  1) Why are you a good fit for the specific project? What experiences or knowledge do you bring that would be beneficial? and 2) What are your professional aspirations? How does this project fit with your career goals?

2020 Summer Research Fellowship applications are due April 20, 2020.  Between April 21 and May 3, faculty mentors may contact applicants for an interview. Fellowship decisions will be announced by May 8, 2020.
