Getting Started with Canvas as an Instructor

Answer

How do I view my Canvas courses?

Answer

After logging into Canvas, you can view your current courses. You may also be able to view past and future enrollment courses in Canvas.

Open Courses

In Global Navigation, click the Courses link [1], then click the All Courses link [2].

How do I use the Dashboard?

Answer
The Dashboard is the first thing you will see when you log into Canvas. The Dashboard helps you see what is happening in all your courses and allows you to figure out what to do next.

How do I use the Course Home Page as an instructor?

Answer
If you are enrolled in a course as an instructor, the Course Home Page is the first page students see when they open the course. The Home Page also helps students understand how they can navigate through the course. You can customize the Home Page to create a specific workflow for your students.

How do I start a new course from the Dashboard?

Answer
Admins or instructors can start a new course in Canvas. New courses are created as course shells to host courses for their institution. Some institutions will have this option disabled and instead provide courses to faculty automatically via SIS (student information system) imports.

Which browsers does Canvas support?

Answer
Supported Browsers
Canvas supports the current and first previous major releases of the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 11 and Edge (Windows only—please make sure your operating system is also current as noted in the computer specifications lesson; you may need to download the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to submit Canvas assignments)
Safari 9 and 10 (Macintosh only)
Chrome 55 and 56
Firefox 50 and 51 (Extended Releases are not supported)
Flash 23 and 24 (used for recording or viewing audio/video and uploading files)
Respondus Lockdown Browser (supporting the latest system requirements)
