HPR 202: Exercise Physiology 

This course focuses on energy metabolism in physical activity and its role in musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems in activity and physical fitness.

HPR 340: Nutrition for Optimal Health 

Students examine the role of nutrition in maintaining health throughout the lifespan. Includes information on macro and micronutrients, weight management, sports nutrition, and disease prevention.

HPR 410: Anatomical Kinesiology 

This course teaches functional anatomy with an emphasis on the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.

Welcome to the School of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Education at Marymount University. The School has undergraduate programs (Bachelor’s in Health Science with specializations in Exercise Science, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Professional, and Public Health), graduate programs (Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master’s in Public Health Education & Promotion), and post-professional transitional doctoral programs (t-Doctor of Physical Therapy and t-Doctorate in Occupational Therapy).

The faculty and staff in our programs are committed to the success of our students, and have built a curricular framework that focuses on critical thinking, professionalism, and leadership. Our emphasis on intellectual curiosity, service to others, and a global perspective allows us to provide a learning environment that respects each individual student. The School has a deeply held belief in servant leadership and prepares our students to advocate for the health of individuals and communities.

Our campus is placed in an ideal location at the intersection of expert practice and policy. Our connection to several national associations such as the American Public Health Association (APHA), the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) enriches the connection between learning in the classroom and best practices in these disciplines. Our location in Arlington, Va., is a mere 5 miles from several of these associations.
