Cultural Programs & Events

Marymount University and the International Student Services Office (ISS) are committed to a student-centered learning community that values diversity. ISS strives to further global awareness through a wide variety of intercultural and educational programs for the University community, these programs give an opportunity for students to share their rich cultures and be engaged in the University community.

Fall 2018 Major Cultural Events

Fall 2018 International Kick-Off Reception

Date: Friday, August 31st, 2018
Time: 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Ireton Lawn, Main Campus (Gerard Lobby - Rain site)
Description: An annual tradition where you can meet new friends, enjoy international food, and share stories of your Summer.  Students will also talk about the exciting multicultural programs coming up including  International Education Week.  Open to the entire university community. 
Sponsors: International Student Services and International Club.


Luray Caverns and Shenandoah Day Trip

Date: Saturday September 7th, 2018
Time: TBA
Location: Shuttle will depart from the main parking lot on main campus.
Description:  Visit to the largest canvern in the eastern coast and hike to the Shenandoah mountains, one of the most scenic sites in Virginia.
Sponsors:  International Student Services and International Club.
Cost: $ 5

Weekly Coffee Hour

Date: Fridays
Time: 3:30 PM-5:00 PM
Location: Gerard Lobby
Description: Weekly meeting of International Club, comprising of international students and American students where participants are able to learn and exchange ideas and improve their multicultural learning experience here at Marymount.  Sessions include country presentations, discussions, film shows, social outings and other exciting activities.

Monthly Pizza Conversation Group

Eid al-Adha

Date: Friday, September 14th, 2018

Location: Lee Center 
Description:  The event will be an introduction to the second most important Islamic holiday to the Marymount community. There will be a discussion of how Elal-Adha is celebrated around the world and the significance of this holiday to emphasize the importance of sharing, giving, expressing gratitute and appreciating friends and family in the Islamic faith.

OPT and CPT Workshops

Dates and Locations: October 1st, November 5th - Main Campus.
Dates and Locations: September 20th, October 18th, November 29th - Ballston Campus. 
Description: F-1 visa holding students must attend a workshop so the can learn about internships and employment opportunities after graduation. International student advisors will go over the application requirements and deadlines as well.

Hayride and Bonfire 

Date: Friday October 19th, 2018
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Shuttle will depart from the main parking lot on main campus.
Description:  A trip to Butler's Orchard in Maryland where students can enjoy a hayride, bonfire and s'mores! Transportation will be provided.

International Education Week

Date: Monday, November 12th - November 16th
Time: TBA
Location: On- Campus
Description:   A weeklong series of events celebrating International Education Week, an joint initiative of the Department of State and Education, celebrating the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Events at Marymount University include presentations, guest lectures, foreign films and the annual International Thanksgiving Dinner.

23rd International Thanksgiving Dinner

Date: Thursday November 15th, 2018
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Location: Lower Rec Gym - Lee Center, Main Campus
Description:  Share a Thansgiving meal with your Marymount family and enjoy a student-led program with international flavors and a  traditional Thanksgiving menu from Boston Market. Open to the entire Marymount Community
Cost: Suggested $1 will go to UNICEF, Syrian Children’s Relief Fund

End of Semester Celebration

Date: Friday, December 7th, 2018
Time: 3:30 to 5:00 PM
Location: Gerard Lobby 
Description: An end-of-semester social with students, faculty, and staff with food, music, and celebrate those graduating.
