Trainees are selected from master’s-level social work and counseling programs, as well as doctoral-level clinical and counseling psychology programs in the DC metro area. Applicants must be advanced students who are at least in their second year of coursework. In choosing among applicants, the training staff considers previous counseling experience, unique clinical skills, and the professional needs of both the applicant and SCS.

Preferred candidates will have the following:

  • Interest in working with a college-aged population
  • At least one year of prior training or work experience, preferably involving counseling/therapy
  • Familiarity with and interest in brief or time-limited psychotherapeutic models
  • Interest in and experience with providing outreach activities on mental health issues

NOTE: Due to ethical considerations, individuals who are currently receiving counseling services at Marymount University's Student Counseling Services, or who have received counseling services at SCS in the past, are not eligible to apply to the training program.
