Trainees are selected from master’s-level social work and counseling programs, as well as doctoral-level clinical and counseling psychology programs in the DC metro area. Applicants must be advanced students who are at least in their second year of coursework. In choosing among applicants, the training staff considers previous counseling experience, unique clinical skills, and the professional needs of both the applicant and Marymount’s Counseling Center.
Preferred candidates should have the following:
- Interest in working with a college-aged population
- At least one year of prior training or work experience, preferably involving counseling/therapy
- Familiarity with and interest in brief or time-limited psychotherapeutic models
- Interest in and experience with providing outreach activities on mental health issues
NOTE: Due to ethical considerations, individuals who are currently receiving counseling services at the Marymount University Counseling Center, or who have received counseling services at the Center in the past, are not eligible to apply to the training program.
