April 13 - Calling for Volunteers to Virginia's Medical Reserve

Dear Marymount Community,

On behalf of Va. Governor Ralph Northam, I write to encourage you to take action and volunteer for one of the worthiest causes – fighting the COVID-19 virus. The Governor is looking for an additional 30,000 medical and non-medical volunteers to provide support for the immediate surge in our hospitals, long-term care facilities and alternate care sites. To help save lives, please consider signing up today as a volunteer with the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

The MRC is a force of dedicated volunteers who stand ready to support the community in the event of a public health emergency. Signing up to serve with the MRC is a great opportunity for health care majors and faculty, as well as all of our students, faculty, staff and friends of the University who are interested in helping their fellow Virginians. Medical experience is recommended but not required. There are many opportunities for everyone.

To become a Virginia MRC volunteer, please visit the Virginia Volunteer Health System website. If you have any questions, please contact vamrc@vdh.virginia.gov.

As we look towards the end of this challenging semester, I am reminded how you have all adjusted to the rapidly changing environment as we look to provide the best education possible at this time. And I know it has not been easy for you or your families. But our Marymount family is resilient, as is the Commonwealth. Let’s continue to work together to keep us moving forward.

Sincerely,

Irma Becerra, Ph.D.
