Two Marymount Education Department faculty members traveled with students and teachers to our partner primary school in rural Uganda, the Arlington Junior School (AJS). This was Elizabeth Langran’s and Mary Gibson’s fifth and sixth trips, respectively. During each trip, Marymount organizes workshops on active learning strategies to teachers at AJS and other outreach public schools, and also advises teachers in their classrooms. This year’s group of trainers included not only Marymount Education undergraduate and graduate students, but also for the first time, local teachers from Arlington, Fairfax and Alexandria public schools, including an MU alumna. Additionally, a seventh grade student at AJS received a prosthetic arm that was 3D-printed by Dr. Eric Bubar of Marymount’s Biology and Physical Sciences Department.
