Marymount Offering New MBA and Cybersecurity Dual Degree

Thursday, May 18, 2017

As the cybersecurity field continues to grow and evolve, the options for those who want to stay on its cutting edge are keeping pace at Marymount University, which will offer a Master of Business Administration and Cybersecurity (M.B.A./M.S.) dual degree for students, beginning in Fall 2017.

“Cybersecurity has become more of a business problem and there is a real need for graduates who are able to manage an organization’s cybersecurity and understand its implications,” said Dr. Diane Murphy, chair of Marymount’s Information Technology, Management Sciences and Cybersecurity program.

The launch of the new dual graduate degree coincides with a move by Marymount’s School of Business Administration into a new building at 1000 North Glebe Road in Ballston.

Murphy said the new dual degree will appeal to those with a technical background who want to increase their management skills or those with a business background looking to gain more technical experience.

“The fact that you’ll be able to graduate with two distinct degrees instead of one with a specialization is what makes this so unique,” she said. “This is a high demand area and it’s why we have so much success with our other dual degrees, such as our IT/Cybersecurity degree.”

The  degree program includes 19 classes for a total of 57 credits.

“For a full-time student, it would be two semesters more than a single master’s degree, or a summer and a semester extra,” said Dr. Linda Christie, director of Marymount’s master of business administration program. “For a part-time student, it probably would mean three extra semesters.”

She said the program can be completed entirely online, in person, or a combination of the two.

“Since so many of graduate students are working full-time, we think it’s important to offer that flexibility,” Christie said.

She said there is a real demand in the D.C. area for people to have graduate degrees.

“It’s almost an expectation that you’ll have at least a master’s degree,” Christie said.

Other Marymount School of Business Administration dual master’s degrees are:
