Marymount University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees.

Since 1958 Marymount University has been accredited by SACSCOC. To maintain its status, every ten years Marymount has submitted a report to demonstrate compliance with the current principles as published by SACSCOC. 

In the summer of 2015, preparations began for the 2018 accreditation reaffirmation with the creation of a steering committee comprised of both faculty and staff members.  As outlined in the current standards at the time, the 2012 Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement, the university was asked to document compliance with 90+ core requirements, comprehensive standards, and federal requirements including the development of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

Over the course of two years, the university gathered and documented confirmation of MU’s compliance with these various standards, building a database of evidence and thoughtfully responding to each principle in writing. Guided by resources available on the SACSCOC website and at the SACSCOC Annual Meeting, Marymount successfully completed its Compliance Certification in September 2017.

Marymount's Compliance Certification report was presented to SACSCOC as a website that included links to ample supporting documentation as well as a comprehensive employee credentials database. Due to the sensitive and confidential nature of that information, the website is not available to the general public. However, a PDF version of the report was created and is linked here

The Compliance Certification was reviewed by a SACSCOC Off-Site Committee in November 2017. The committee requested additional information on several of the SACSCOC standards.  Marymount provided this information in the form of a Focused Report that was reviewed by a SACSCOC On-Site Review Committee in February 2018.  Marymount also responded to new standards approved during the 2017 SACSCOC Annual Meeting by submitting an additional report, the Addendum, reviewed by the On-Site Committee along with the Focused Report. 

In December 2018, the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges voted to officially reaffirm Marymount University's accreditation

The next report, the Fifth-Year Interim Report, is due in March 2023 and will be guided by the 2018 Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement
