Dr. Bender-Burnett graduated from University of Evansville in 2006 with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy. Her Master’s thesis: “Validity of the Presidential Fitness Challenge,” selected for presentation at ACSM annual conference in 2001, assessed the validity of the federally mandated physical fitness test in children ages 7-14. In 2009, she completed her transitional doctoral degree in Physical Therapy at Marymount University In 2010, she became a board certified neurologic clinical specialist (NCS) in physical therapy.
Dr. Bender-Burnett’s clinical background is in neurological rehabilitation at Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington D.C. and the inpatient rehabilitation hospital and acute care hospital at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. She currently practices outpatient neurological physical therapy and wheelchair seating evaluation and prescription at Neurological PT, Falls Church VA.
Dr. Bender-Burnett has been involved in Marymount University’s doctoral physical therapy program since 2011 as a physical therapy adjunct faculty member and began as a Lecturer in 2018. She has additionally taught at the undergraduate level in the Malek School of Health Professions in pre-physical therapy courses. She has written numerous clinical reference pieces for Elsevier’s Online Clinician training portal and has presented as a speaker at the Mowat Wilson Syndrome (MWS) Annual Conference on physical therapy intervention for children living with MWS.
Dr. Bender-Burnett is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the APTA. She has volunteered at the Federation of the State Boards of Physical Therapy for the last 6 years, serving as member and co-chair of the Exam Development Committee for the National Physical Therapy Examination for licensure.
