Marymount names Dr. Anne Magro as new College of BILT Dean

 

Dr. Anne Magro has been appointed the next Dean of Marymount University’s College of Business, Innovation, Leadership and Technology (BILT). Starting in May, she will lead a College at the cutting edge of innovation, with leading programs in domestic and international business and management, information technology, economics, design, art, cybersecurity and more.

Following a rigorous national search process, Dr. Magro will fill the role that has been held on an interim basis by Dr. Soumya Sivakumar since August 2023. Previously, she held several notable leadership positions at the Costello College of Business at George Mason University that included Interim Dean and Deputy Dean & Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Impact, through which she played a key role in shaping the college’s vision and strategic direction.

At the Costello College of Business, Dr. Magro’s impact has been felt in numerous ways. She spearheaded a redesign of the undergraduate business curriculum, introducing a business foundations core that emphasized interdisciplinary studies and prepared students for the complexities of today’s business environment. Under her leadership, the college experienced significant growth in faculty and staff, expanded its research initiatives and achieved remarkable success in program development and accreditation.

Dr. Magro’s commitment to educational excellence extends beyond her prior institution. She has been actively involved in advancing business education globally through her engagement with AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation processes and international organizations. As Interim Dean, Dr. Magro led the Costello College of Business through a successful transition to new AACSB standards, implementing innovative faculty qualification models and ensuring rigorous assurance of learning processes. Her dedication to accreditation and quality improvement has contributed to enhancing business education and responsible management practices worldwide.

Recognized as a leader in her field, Dr. Magro’s research focuses on the cognition, judgment and decision-making of accountants and users of accounting information, particularly tax professionals. Her scholarly contributions have been published in prestigious journals such as The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. Her outstanding research and teaching achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including the distinguished EY Outstanding Tax Educator award from the American Taxation Association.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Dr. Magro has contributed to professional organizations and served on various boards, including multiple sections of the American Accounting Association and the Federation of Schools of Accountancy. She has also been a champion for responsible management education through her involvement with the UN Global Compact’s Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) Initiative and the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative.

Dr. Magro holds a Ph.D. in Accountancy and a M.S. in Taxation from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and received her bachelor’s from the University of Michigan. She has previously held faculty positions at Rutgers University, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas at Austin and Carleton College.
