What is Peer Tutoring?

Peer tutoring is a free service that pairs undergraduate and graduate students with a qualified tutor. Peer tutoring includes course content help and writing assistance. Additionally, sometimes tutors join classes at Marymount to offer in-class support and review sessions to prepare for major assignments, quizzes, and exams. Course content help might look like a tutor guiding you through problems similar to those in your homework, explaining concepts from lectures or assigned reading, and answering any questions.

Writing assistance might look like a tutor suggesting how you can improve your paper, e.g., strengthening your thesis, reorganizing your essay, or suggestions for editing your paper on your own. Also, writing tutors help with citing sources, developing ideas for a paper, and making sure a paper meets the assignment rubric.

Peer tutoring is collaborative and designed to help students become confident, independent learners and writers. In-person and Zoom tutoring appointments are available on TutorTrac. Click here for a short guide on making an appointment.
