Psychology Internships at Marymount University

What is a Marymount psychology internship?

Answer
  • The internship is an opportunity for psychology majors to apply what they have learned throughout the major to a workplace setting.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 240 hours of on-site experience at the internship site in order to pass the PSY 400 internship course. Typically, students work at their internship sites two full workdays per week (8 hours per day) to meet this requirement.

Who should do an internship?

Answer
  • All psychology majors complete the 6-credit internship course (PSY 400) as a requirement for graduation.
  • The only exception to this requirement is for students who take PSY 405 (6 credits) and serve as instructors for the General Psychology (PSY 105) labs. This requires a nomination by a faculty committee.

When do psychology majors do an internship?

Answer
  • The internship is a senior-level capstone experience. Students are eligible for the internship after meeting the PSY 400 prerequisites: PSY 200 or CCS 399 and senior status (90 credits).
  • The internship lasts for one semester/term and may be completed in the fall, spring, or summer.

How and when do students find internship sites?

Answer
  • It is each student’s responsibility to find an internship site by contacting sites and applying directly.
  • Students should begin investigating sites the semester before they plan to do the internship.

Where have recent psychology majors done internships?
