The Cody Gallery at Marymount University is pleased to present the juried high school student exhibition “Visions 2019.” This annual exhibition will run from November 8, 2019 – December 7, 2019, with an Opening Reception Friday, November 8, 2019 from 6 – 8pm. The Opening Reception is free, open to the public, and juror awards will be presented.
 
Visions 2019 highlights local high school talent from the City of Alexandria, and Arlington and Fairfax counties. Juried by the former Director of the Cody Gallery, Meaghan Kent, this exhibition will present a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, and sculpture. The exhibition offers the opportunity for the next generation of regional artists to present their artistic visions to Arlington County and the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area, and gain important developmental skills for obtaining scholastic and professional opportunities.   
 
This exhibition is a partnership between Marymount University’s Department of Fine Arts and the Cody Gallery. It demonstrates a commitment to building relationships with the surrounding community, while offering important educational opportunities for younger community members. 
 
Cody Gallery is located at 1000 North Glebe Road, 2nd Floor, and hours are 12 – 5pm Friday and Saturday, or by appointment. Street parking and Capital Bikeshare are available. About the Juror: Meaghan Kent
Meaghan Kent is the Curator of Exhibitions at the Art and Culture Center, Hollywood, Florida. She was formerly the Director of Cody Gallery at Marymount University and is also the Founder and Director of Site95, an organization that holds exhibitions in available spaces. Kent has been a gallery director where she managed the careers of internationally emerging and established artists and coordinated exhibitions locally and worldwide. Kent worked at Casey Kaplan, Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York and Páramo in Guadalajara. She completed her MA in art history at George Washington University, Washington, DC and her BA at the College of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was a participant of Independent Curators International (ICI) Intensive in 2012. Kent has written for several publications including: Site95 Journal, ArtHaps, and Art in America.

Curated exhibitions include: “Tactile Hallucinations”, “That’s Why I’m Here” at Marymount University, and “Under Construction” at Páramo. With Site95 she curated the “Dead in August” a multi-venue series in New York, “P2V: P. Scott Cunningham and Antoine Lefebvre” at Dimensions Variable, Miami, “Trombly Rodriguez: The Fabric of a Space” at the Abrons Arts Center, New York, as well as outdoor public commissions in Miami, Florida. In addition, Kent co-organized “PaintersNYC” with Maureen Cavanaugh at El Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueńos in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2017. Her work has been reviewed in FriezeThe Washington PostGallery MonthlyThe Miami Herald, and The New York Times.


Cody Gallery is a contemporary art space created as a platform to support the arts and strengthen the arts community at Marymount University and the greater Washington DC area. Exhibitions present work by local, regional and international artists in order to provide groundbreaking and thought-provoking work for the community to experience.
