Panama City, Panama
Panama is one of the medical tourism destinations of the Americas. In Spring 2015, a group of HCM students and faculty traveled to Panama city to explore its medical tourism industry. In addition to learning about the Panamanian health care system, through site visits and lectures, students reflected on some of the deeper social, political, legal and ethical issues that arise from medical tourism.
We visited the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama, Hospital Punta Pacifica Hospital, fertility and dental clinics in order to understand the challenges and opportunities of medical tourism in Panama.
Amidst the country’s rapid economic growth, scholars shed light on the health challenges faced by the disadvantaged populations.
