2017 Strong By Design-athon
March 30-31, 2017
The Strong by Design-athon aims to raise awareness of the needs of veterans with disabilities and inspire the design, technology and healthcare communities to embrace Universal Design.
Universal Design–or Design for All–is a movement to ensure that designers consider the needs of everyone when they create products, services, technologies, and buildings.
Bringing together undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty from the Marymount University Wilhelmina Boldt Interior Design Program and Malek School of Health Profession - Physical Therapy Program, the University will provide an opportunity for intergenerational community based problem solving of a major social issue- veterans and disabilities.
The Strong by Design-athon, two-day event and project exhibition, will focus on accessibility and usability for Veterans in technology, services, and product design through lightning talks by notable speakers, team empathy exercises, design, prototyping and marketing strategies. It will involve a broad group of members of the DC Metro/ Northern Virginia Community: Students, Designers, Faculty, Care-givers, and Veterans with or without disabilities. Our goal is to use design thinking to go beyond stereotypes and build compassionate solutions.
