The minor in Sustainability prepares students from any major to become environmentally literate citizens who can incorporate sustainable practices in their lives and careers. As an interdisciplinary program, it provides students with the opportunity to focus and refine the knowledge gained from their own fields of study by adding the perspective of other disciplines.

Principles of sustainability are embedded within Marymount’s Catholic heritage, which calls for all to promote stewardship of the Earth. Sustainability has become an integral part of several University programs of study, and the minor will allow students who have a compelling interest in sustainability to both improve their knowledge by integrating courses from a variety of fields, and to acquire an additional credential that may enhance their marketability.

This minor culminates with a project or internship. At the completion of the project or internship, the student will publicly demonstrate the results of this experiential learning opportunity with a performance, display, or presentation. A member of the Sustainability Minor Faculty Steering Committee will work with the student’s advisor to assure that the project or internship is in the area of sustainability and to approve the public demonstration.
