Meet FYE Staff
Dr. Yolanda Gibson, Associate Dean of First Year Experience
Yolanda oversees academic advising for all first year students and coordinates the seminar classes, DISCOVER 101 First-Year Seminar and DISCOVER 201 Transfer Student Experience, which introduces students to active learning and student engagement. In addition, she is responsible for coordinating and facilitating efforts across the university to provide a unified approach to interventions aimed at increasing retention and success rates of first year students.
Dr. Gibson has worked in higher education for over a decade holding previous positions as Director of Alumni Relations (Marymount University), Director of the Student Success Center at the University of the District of Columbia’s Community College, Director of Campus & Community Relations at Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria Camps), Academic Coordinator at George Washington University’s Graduate Center, and adjunct professor at both NOVA and UDC-CC.
Dr. Gibson earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount University in Communication Studies and Business Administration, a Master of Arts degree in Community College Teaching and Doctor of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from George Mason University (VA).
Stephanie Grissom, Academic Advisor, School of Health Professions and School of Business Administration
Stephanie Grissom serves as the First Year Experience Academic Advisor for students in the Malek School of Health Professions and the School of Business Administration. She holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in English (non-teaching) from University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a Master of Public Administration from Bowie State University. In her leisure time, Stephanie enjoys reading, listening to music, and traveling. Two of her favorite role models are Oprah Winfrey and the late Dr. Maya Angelou.
TaQuilla Martin, Administrative Assistant
TaQuilla Martin serves as the Administrative Assistant in the First Year Experience Office. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College and has held previous positions at Lawrence Technological University, the University of Baltimore and the United Negro College Fund. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors, dancing, reading sci-fi and designing floral arrangements.
Dr. Megan Tucker, Academic Advisor, School of Arts and Sciences
Megan Tucker serves as the Academic Advisor for students in the School of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Tucker earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and English (Journalism) from Christopher Newport University. She went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Communication and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Higher Education at George Mason University. Dr. Tucker has worked in higher education for almost a decade, working as a Communication faculty member at George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College and Johns Hopkins University. She also has prior experience as an academic advisor at GMU, and a project manager for the National Communication Association in Washington D.C. When she is not working she likes to travel, cook, and play with Honey, her new puppy.
Caitlin Wesolek, Academic Advisor, School of Education and Human Services and Undeclared Majors
Caitlin Wesolek serves as the Academic Advisor for students in the School of Education and Human Services/Undeclared. Caitlin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Georgia College and State University in 2012. She went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Forensic and Legal Psychology at Marymount University. During her time as a Marymount student, Caitlin developed a passion for the students and the campus, leading her back to the university after graduation. In her free time, Caitlin enjoys baking, camping, and playing with her puppy Willie.
