Health Sciences (B.S.)



Students will choose from three emphasis areas in the Health Sciences major:

  • The Public Health emphasis is based upon receommendations of the ACSM and Council on Education for Public Health for those students intersted in a career in public health and also future graduate study in the area of public health. Students taking this emphasis are strongly encouraged consider the 5 year accelerated B.S. to M.S. program in Health Education and Promotion and should consult an advisor for more information.   • The Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis is intended for those interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Physical Therapy. Marymount offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program.
  • Pre-professional emphasis. Intended to prepare students for the prerequisite graduate level entry requirements into the professional fields of Athletic Training, Chiropractic and Occupational Therapy.
  • Combined BS to MS program in Health Sciences/Health Education and Promotion

Marymount’s program merges science with application to prepare leaders in health promotion who can address the needs of a diverse population. Using contemporary approaches such as behavior change modeling, students develop 21st-century skills of today for preventive health care careers of tomorrow.

Upon completion of the program, students will be qualified to apply for health fitness instructor certification by the American College of Sports Medicine.
