The Counseling Center provides brief, solution-focused individual counseling services. Individual counseling services are short-term – students are allotted 12-15 individual counseling sessions within an academic year. (For the Counseling Center, the academic year begins and ends in mid-May.) There is no limit on participation in group counseling and personal growth workshops, however.
If the counselor believes that a student’s needs could be served more appropriately outside the Counseling Center, the counselor will work with the student to ensure connections with referrals to treatment providers in the community.
NOTE: In general, specialized and/or long-term mental health treatment is considered a personal health-care responsibility, and is not a service provided by the University. The Counseling Center can help students in connecting with whatever support or assistance they need in the community.
