Confidentiality - Information for Family & Friends

Although confidentiality limits the amount and type of information that a counselor can share with others regarding a student’s contact with the Counseling Center, Counseling Center staff can receive any information that a faculty or staff member wishes to provide. That information can be used to better assist students and advise and direct faculty and staff members about how to support students and refer them to the Counseling Center or other resources.

In addition, the limits of confidentiality do allow for counselors to make contact with family members and others in cases of imminent risk of harm to oneself or others. Learn more about confidentiality and its limits.
