Student Life

7 Steps

Here is the 7-Step paperwork process to register for your internship:

Step 1: Print off and complete the Academic Internship Interest Form. Provide this to your Faculty Advisor/AIM and the Center for Career Services (CCS) on the 2nd floor of the Ballston Center or fax it to (703) 284-5961. Make sure you keep a copy! Print off the specific internship documents for your school/major. If you do not see documents for your major, speak to your advisor about the steps to proceed.

Step 2: Speak to your advisor and/or Academic Internship Mentor (AIM); they may be two different people within your academic area. Make sure you give them a copy of your interest form!

Step 3: Search for an internship. Use all resources available to you! Your advisors, faculty, Jobs4Saints, CCS staff, family, friends, etc. Network to find an internship in line with what you want to do when you graduate. See popular internship links.

Step 4: Keep in touch with your AIM and the CCS staff so that they know you are looking in case any great opportunities come about. Check for new jobs on Jobs4Saints. They're posted every day! Use resources in the Center for Career Services, 2nd floor, Ballston Center.

Step 5: Be sure to have your internship opportunity approved by your AIM before accepting an offer of employment (a good time to let your AIM know is before you interview). Complete the Academic Internship Agreement and return this form to the CCS or your academic dean. Make sure you keep a copy for your records and give a copy to your employer.

Step 6: Register for your internship course (or you will not be eligible for credit). You can take a completed copy of your agreement form to the Registrar’s Office to release the hold and register for the internship course.

Step 7: Check with your AIM to see if there are specific documents you'll need to complete for your internship in your major. Some documents are posted online for your academic department or on the Center for Career Services’s website; others are not.

Learn! Learn! Learn! Enjoy your opportunity to put all your lessons to work on the job. Be on time. Be professional. Be all you can be!
