Orientation

First-Year Students

There is a lot of information to cover so we have divided this experience into two parts – our Summer Orientation Sessions (SOS) and First-Year Fall Welcome.

During the summer, all first-year students are to attend one two-day session. It is mandatory that students attend these sessions; please plan vacations accordingly.

2012 Summer Orientation Session (SOS) Dates
  • SOS 1: June 21-22
  • SOS 2: June 24-25
  • SOS 3: June 27-28

About SOS
You will meet other first-year students, participate in academic advising, and confirm your fall schedule. You will learn more about campus resources and experience campus life with an overnight stay in the residence halls.

All students should plan to stay on campus overnight regardless of whether you will be a resident or commuter student in the fall.

Session Schedule
Make sure to get plenty of rest before coming to SOS, because we have two very busy days scheduled for you!

Each session begins at 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. on the first day, and again from 9 a.m. until early afternoon on the second. During SOS 1 and SOS 3, a noon mass will be offered on day 2. For SOS 2, an 8 a.m. mass will be offered on day 1. We’ll provide all of your meals, starting with lunch on your first day.

Registering for Classes
Starting in May, the New Student Advising and Registration (NSTAR) site will be available with information on completing your Directed Self-Placement (DSP), selecting your DISCOVER 101 First-Year Seminar course, and registering for classes. Take a look at a list of all of the majors to gain a better understanding of different areas of study here at Marymount.

Students with Disabilities
Accommodations for persons with physical or learning disabilities must be requested at least two weeks in advance of the orientation session you plan to attend. Please contact Student Access Services at (703) 284-1615 or by e-mail at access@marymount.edu.
