Family Program

Is your first-year student starting classes in spring 2012?
We invite you to attend our Spring Orientation Session (SOS) with your student on Thursday, January 12 (inclement weather date: January 13). At this session, there will be a resource fair as well as a family-specific component that will help to prepare you for your role in your student's experience here at Marymount. There will also be opportunities to interact with staff and faculty on campus. We will do our best to answer your questions. If we can assist you in any way before or after the orientation session, please do not hesitate to contact us at mykidis@marymount.edu.

Is your first-year student beginning at Marymount in fall 2012?
During the summer, all students and their families are invited to campus to attend one two-day session. It is mandatory that students attend these sessions so please plan accordingly. In addition to the information we have planned for new students, we have designed a program specifically to address your concerns as a parent or family member and to provide information and resources just for you. Even if you are familiar with Marymount or have already sent one student to college, you can benefit from our Parent Orientation program. Families are an invaluable support system for our students, and we’ve found they benefit greatly from learning more about Marymount University and their student’s future college experiences.

2012 Summer Orientation Sessions (SOS) Dates
  • SOS 1: June 21-22
  • SOS 2: June 24-25
  • SOS 3: June 27-28
Our Parent Orientation runs concurrently with, but separate from, the student orientation program. That means that you will be here with your student, but not necessarily in the same sessions. Both families and students receive comparable information, but often in different formats or with a different twist. We want both students and parents to have their specific needs addressed and be as open and honest as possible. This will also give you something to talk about on the way home!

The sessions will give you the opportunity to meet faculty and staff members, learn more about Marymount’s academic programs and campus resources and services, including financial aid and payment information, and participate in panel discussions with current students. Aside from our planned schedule, there will be time to connect with other parents and family members to relax, chat and share experiences. Plan to be here from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on the first day, and from 8:30 a.m. until noon on the second day. Depending on their advising appointment, students should be able to leave between noon and 2 p.m. We provide a light continental breakfast on both days and a lunch on day one.

If we can assist you in any way before or after SOS, please do not hesitate to contact us at mykidis@marymount.edu.
