Women’s Swimming Finishes RMC Invitational in Third Place
Chesterfield, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s swimming team finished the Randolph-Macon Invitational in third place after the second day of competition on Saturday. The Saints earned 481 total points during the event.
Marymount won four individual events on the second day, including Casey Thomas setting a meet record in the 100 freestyle. She posted a time of 53.60 in the event.
The Saints opened competition as the team of Taylor Hood, Jessica Hester, Bridget Wunderly and Katie Moran placed fourth in the 200 medley relay while Lauren Funk, Kaitlyn Eyler, Kassidy Schmidt and Isabella Blecha posted a 10th place finish.
Opening individual events, Wunderly placed second in the 100 butterfly before Thomas won her first event of the day in the 200 freestyle with Hanna Del Signore coming in ninth. Hester added a sixth place finish in the 100 breaststroke in the next event.
Marymount put together a dominating performance in the 100 backstroke. Hood won the event with Schmidt coming in third, Funk eighth and Moran 10th. The Saints closed out the first session with a second place showing in the 800 freestyle relay from Wunderly, Moran, Del Signore and Thomas.
In the second session, Schmidt picked up another win for the Blue and White in the 200 backstroke while Funk and Eyler placed seventh and ninth, respectively. Thomas followed suit with her record-setting performance in the 100 freestyle with Moran coming in fourth.
Wrapping up individual performances, Hester placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke and Wunderly was third in the 200 butterfly.
Marymount went on to close things out with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay by the squad of Moran, Del Signore, Wunderly and Thomas.
Marymount returns to action after the New Year as it takes on Catholic and Washington & Lee in a double-dual meet on January 18 in Washington, D.C.
