Wednesday, October 26, 2011
Washington, D.C. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team picked up its first point in the Capital Athletic Conference standings with a 2-2 draw against St. Mary’s (Md.) in its season finale on Wednesday. The Saints close out the 2011 campaign 5-10-1 overall and 0-7-1 in league play.

St. Mary’s struck first, taking an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. The Saints would respond at the 39:33 mark as Brianna Notarangelo’s initial shot was saved by the Seahawks keeper but careened to the feet of a waiting Katie Hamelin. Closing things out, Hamelin tapped in the goal to knot the game at 1-1.

In the waning minutes of the opening frame, SMC struck again. With just 1:55 remaining in the stanza, the Seahawks scored again to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Battling back, Marymount retied the game for good at the 75:09 mark. Setting up for a corner kick on the left side, Hannah Boswell served in a perfect ball far post to Danni Bankins who in turn knocked the tying goal into the back of the net.

Gaby Prellezo and Holly Wenger split time between the pipes for the Saints, combining for 10 saves. Prellezo played the first half and hauled in six while Wenger took over for the second frame and both overtimes to grab four saves.
