Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team closed out the calendar year with a 63-52 loss to the visiting College of New Jersey in non-conference action on Friday. The Saints drop to 3-9 overall on the season.
Katelyn Fischer led the Saints with 14 points to go with eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals. Sam Spencer added 11 points for MU while Dominique Dickens pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
A highly contested game from the opening tip, both squads traded six leads and forced three ties during the first half. Marymount led by as many as four in the frame on a breakaway layup by Dickens at the 12:35 mark. The Lions (8-3) would make a late push in the stanza, eventually taking a 30-26 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime, TCNJ pushed its lead to eight quickly before the Saints responded to pull within a pair at 36-34 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Julie Tomesheski. Clamping down, the Lions took control from there and made it a double-figure lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Tiffany DeTulio led the Lions with 16 points while Jessica Imhof added 11.
Marymount returns to the hardwood after the New Year against St. Mary’s (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, January 4.
