Men’s Hoops Defeats Visiting Ferrum
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team defeated visiting Ferrum 62-57 in non-conference action on Wednesday night. The Saints improve to 5-11 on the season and snap a three-game losing streak in the process.
Three Saints scored in double-figures, led by a team-high 16 points from Reed Scott. Antonio Rouse and JC Hoellich both added 12 points off the bench.
Hoellich nearly recorded a double-double, posting nine rebounds in the win. Rick Narcisse added nine points and seven rebounds while Jesse Konadu led all players with three blocked shots.
A back-and-forth first half saw six ties and five lead changes throughout the first 18 minutes of action. Ferrum (8-7) closed out the frame with back-to-back unanswered baskets to take a 31-27 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Saints went on an 11-2 run to open the second half to retake the lead and go up 38-33 after five minutes of play. The Panthers would respond, eventually knotting things up at 43-43 with nine minutes to play.
A Scott jumper on the subsequent possession, followed by a defensive hold and three-pointer from Rouse, put the Saints back up 48-43 with 7:32 to remaining. Ferrum would stay within two possessions for the next six minutes but a 7-1 run with three minutes left gave Marymount the cushion it needed to close the game out on the free throw line down the stretch.
Lamont King led Ferrum with a double-double, scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing a game-best 11 rebounds.
