Men’s Lacrosse Drops CAC Contest at Third-Ranked Stevenson
Owings Mills, Md. – Marymount University’s men’s lacrosse team fell 25-7 to third-ranked Stevenson in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The game is the first of four contests for the Saints over the next seven days.
Senior Jeff Cook led the Saints with a pair of goals and two assists while fellow senior Chris Wascak, juniors Drew Phillips and David Huson, sophomore Jack Burke and freshman Connor Kellogg all added goals.
Marymount (2-9, 0-3 CAC) kept things close through the opening 10 minutes of play, scoring the game’s opening goal and leading 2-1 on a pair of Cook scores. The Mustangs (11-1, 4-0 CAC) would battle back with five unanswered goals to close out the first quarter up 6-2.
Kellogg and Wascak added goals to open the second stanza and cut the deficit to 7-4 before Stevenson put the game away by holding the Saints scoreless until Burke’s man-up goal in the fourth quarter.
In goal, junior Ross Fernandez, senior Marc Scanlon and freshman Derek DiGiovanni combined for 17 saves. Fernandez pulled in 11 saves while DiGiovanni hauled in six.
DiGiovanni and fellow freshman Sam Dupont led the Saints with three ground balls while senior Robby Woycik caused a team-high two turnovers.
Thirteen different Mustangs scored in the win, led by Tyler Reid’s five goals and Neal Barthelme’s four.
Marymount returns to action on Monday as it completes a halted game with St. Mary’s (Md.) in St. Mary’s City, Md. At 4 p.m.
