Marymount Women’s Athletics Places Third in 2012-13 VaSID All-Sports College Division Survey

Newport News, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s athletics teams posted the third-best winning-percentage of all 27 non-NCAA Division I institutions in Virginia for the 2012-13 season in the annual Virginia Sports Information Directors All-Sports College Division Survey. The Saints won 66.8% of their contests on the women’s side throughout the year, topping their previous best finish of eighth place with 59.9% in 2004-05.

Leading the way with a 24-5 record, the women’s basketball team won the Capital Athletic Conference championship for the 12th time and made their 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history. The Saints women’s volleyball team also posted a 20-win season, going 26-10 overall to set a program record for wins in a season en route to an appearance in the CAC Tournament Finals.

Marymount’s women’s swimming program went 6-4 in head-to-head meets and finished third at the CAC Championships. The women’s lacrosse team went 7-8 overall to claim the most wins since 2008 and reached the CAC Tournament while the women’s soccer team finished 6-7-1 overall for its best season since 2007.

Only Christopher Newport (80.7%) and Lynchburg (67.5%) had better winning-percentages than the Saints on the women’s side.

Overall, Marymount placed 12th out of 28 teams with a 52.1% combined winning-percentage for both men’s and women’s teams.
