Men’s Hoops Wraps Up First Half of CAC Play Victorious
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team closed out the first half of Capital Athletic Conference play with a 65-58 victory over visiting Salisbury on Wednesday night. The Saints improve to 12-4 on the season and 5-3 in league play.
Reed Scott led the Saints with 18 points and seven rebounds while Antonio Rouse chipped in 13 points and Michael Anderson added 12 off the bench.
Salisbury (6-10, 2-6 CAC) took the early lead, pushed to an 8-2 advantage two minutes in, and led 11-4 at the 16:41 mark. Marymount battled back to tie things up courtesy of a 7-0 run and hung the Sea Gulls shot-for-shot until Rouse’s three-pointer with five minutes to play gave the Saints their first lead up 24-23. A Jesse Konadu three-pointer at the 2:58 mark gave the Saints a 29-23 lead, their largest of the half, before eventually taking a 35-30 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Marymount scored seven unanswered points to start the half to take a 42-30 lead just 2:36 in and force a Salisbury timeout. The Sea Gulls would begin the chip away at the MU advantage from beyond the arc and pull within two down 48-46 with 9:50 remaining.
Marymount then went on a 10-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by a pair of Anderson free throws, to regain momentum and lead 58-48. Salisbury wouldn’t come any closer than five points the rest of the way as Anderson closed things out at the free throw line.
Brandyn Wilkerson led Salisbury with 18 points.
