Men’s Soccer Falls to Future CAC Foe in Overtime
Buena Vista, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s soccer team fell to future Capital Athletic Conference foe Southern Virginia 2-1 in overtime in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints drop their record to 3-5-2 overall on the season.
Playing with a limited squad and starting multiple reserves, the Saints put the first score on the board in the 29th minute. Jorge Alvarado collected a pass off a corner kick from Reid McKee to put MU up 1-0 early.
The Knights (7-4) responded to knot the score at 1-1 in the 54th minute before both squads buckled down to force extra time.
In overtime, Southern Virginia netted the game-winner nearly seven minutes into the bonus frame off a goal from a rebound shot.
Kurt Michaels hauled in seven saves between the pipes for the Saints in his first action as a goalkeeper with the Blue and White.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it travels to face York (Pa.) in CAC play.
