Arlington, Va. – Marymount University senior Maame Amponsah was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Amponsah led the Saints to a perfect 2-0 mark in conference play on the week and posted a pair of double-doubles in the process.
Opening the week with a stellar 20 point, 19 rebound performance, Amponsah paced MU (3-4, 3-1 CAC) to an 85-70 road victory over Salisbury. She added four assists and a pair of blocks to go with 7-for-12 shooting from the floor. Marymount’s 85 points were 21 higher than its previous season-best.
In a showdown against rival Mary Washington in a rematch of the 2010 CAC Championship game, Amponsah posted 15 points and 15 rebounds for her seventh consecutive double-double of the season. She added another block and assist while again hitting 7-for-12 from the field to move the Saints into a tie for second-place in the league standings.
On the week, Amponsah averaged 17.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting a solid 58.3 percent from the floor.
Marymount has the week off for finals and returns to action on Wednesday, December 22, on the road at The College of New Jersey at 5 p.m.
