Ashland, Va. – Marymount University’s volleyball team dropped its season opener 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13) on the road at Randolph-Macon on Thursday night.
Junior outside hitter Michelle McCormick led the Saints (0-1) with eight kills while junior middle hitter Jennifer Forbes added seven at a solid .429 attack percentage. Fellow junior Melissa Warren paced the offense with 17 assists.
Defensively, Warren tallied 11 digs for a double-double while freshman libero Cassidie Watson chipped in a match-high 21.
At the net, sophomore Johanna Hummel collected two solo blocks and assisted on another as Forbes also had one solo rejection and one block assists.
Marymount returns to the court on Saturday as the host a tri-match with Lynchburg and Messiah. The Saints open the day at noon before wrapping up the tri-match at 4 p.m.
