– The new Wiehle-Reston East Metro station offcially opened on the Silver Line on Saturday, July 26, offering convenient service to Marymount University’s Reston Center.
“It’s literally right across the street,” said Larry Hoffman, the Reston Center’s executive director of educational partnerships. “We have a lot of adult students at the undergraduate
and graduate level who are going to be able to rely on the Silver Line’s convenience to save
time in their busy schedules. Before we had bus service, but the new train runs every six minutes during rush hour.”
Prior to this, Hoffman said the closest Metro station was in Falls Church. He said the new service now provides a direct route between Marymount’s Reston Center and its Ballston
Center, which gives students more flexibility in taking classes at different locations.
Bus service to Dulles Airport and Reston Town Center will operate from the new station,
which has 10 bus bays in a covered garage on the north side and five bus bays on the south
The station has entrances on both the north and south side of the Dulles Toll Road, with
a pedestrian bridge crossing the road. It features a parking garage with more than 2,300
spaces, including 253 reserved spots. Each side has 15 bike racks, and the station has a
secure reserved room for 200 bikes.

According to a press release from Metro, the nation’s second-busiest rapid transit
system grew 10 percent larger with the addition of the Wiehle-Reston East station and four
others at McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro and Spring Hill. The new Silver Line is the
largest expansion of Metro – and the first time a new color has been added to the Metro
map – since the Green Line opened in 1991.
Metro now serves a total of 91 stations on a 118-mile system in Virginia, Maryland and
the District of Columbia. The new Silver Line tracks branch off from the existing Orange Line
between East Falls Church and West Falls Church. The first new station, McLean, is about 8
minutes from East Falls Church.
