Women’s Volleyball Splits Opening Day at CUA Tournament

Washington, D.C. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team split a pair of matches during the first day of the CUA Invitational on Saturday. The Saints dropped a tough 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 15-9) decision to host Catholic before rebounding to defeat Eastern Mennonite 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20).

Emileigh Rettig and Erin Allison both posted double-doubles in the loss to the Cardinals. Rettig led the Saints with 14 kills to go with 15 digs while Allison added 11 kills and 26 digs.

Johanna Hummel chipped in 11 kills while Cassidie Watson was credited with an impressive 46 digs.

Brianne Fitzpatrick paced the MU (2-2) offense with 32 assists while Zacharie Jackson added 26.

Against the Royals, Rettig and McAlpin both led the Blue and White with nine kills while Jackson added another 23 assists with Fitzpatrick chipping in 13.

Watson notched 23 digs while Allison added another 13.

Marymount returns to action on Sunday as it faces Mt St. Vincent and Swarthmore to close out the CUA Tournament.
