Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team wrapped up the 2012 season with an 18-11 victory over visiting Bridgewater (Va.) on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints close out the season 5-10 overall.
Eight different Saints scored goals in the win, led by Tancy Weatherford, Lindsay Quinn and Megan McGuirk with three each for hat-tricks. Chelsea Ritter, Catherine Powell, Molly Maher and Stephanie Flood all added a pair while Taylor Johnson chipped in a lone goal.
Weatherford also dished out an impressive five assists with Quinn adding two and Jacki Belker, Cecilia Pasquale, Johnson and Ritter also nothing one each.
Trading early goals, MU turned a 1-1 game into a 5-1 lead before pushing its advantage to 7-2 after just eight minutes of action. The Saints would close out the half with a pair of goals to take an 11-4 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime, both sides traded goal for goal before Bridgewater (6-10) notched back-to-back scores with 10 minutes to play. Too little, too late, the Eagles never pulled within more than six goals for the Saints the entire second half.
Marymount was strong defensively all day, allowing just 11 of 20 successful clears from the Eagles. The Saints also won the battle of draw controls with Ritter hauling in seven to lead all players.
Maher was also tenacious on defense, earning five caused turnovers to go with five ground balls.
In goal Kiki Niebuhr collected eight saves in 45 minutes of action for the win. She allowed just seven goals.
Taylor Chamberlain led the Eagles with five goals.
