Marymount Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Joins CAC Food Drive Challenge
Arlington, Va. – The Marymount University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will participate in this year’s Capital Athletic Conference Challenge, as announced by the committee on Tuesday.
Now in its fourth year, the CAC Challenge adds a competitive twist to any traditional Thanksgiving food drive as member institutions compete to garner the most overall donations.
The CAC-wide competition will be determined by total weight of the food collected, with all participating schools conducting a ten-day drive in support of their local food banks. School SAAC representatives will submit the total weight of food collected to the conference office, and the winner will be announced the week of the Thanksgiving.
Each school then donates all collected items to local food banks in time for distribution prior to Thanksgiving.
The Saints kick-off their ten-day collection period Friday, November 15, as Marymount hosts the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament. Both monetary and nonperishable food donations will be accepted, with one dollar counting as one pound of food.
Sunday, November 24, closes out the Marymount collection window, with all proceeds being donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
Over the three-year history of the CAC Challenge, participating schools have collected more than 14,500 pounds of food. Last year alone, the CAC SAAC members combined for more than three tons of food to donate to local food banks in time for the holiday season.
