Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team released its 2012 schedule, as announced by head coach Jamie Reynolds on Monday. The Saints host seven games at their new home field at Long Bridge Park.
“We are really looking forward to a ‘new beginning’ in many aspects,” Reynolds said. “Our new field is one of the most unique in all of college lacrosse and we are excited to call Long Bridge Park our home.”
“Our schedule is packed with great competition and we are a new team with less than half of the roster being returners,” continued Reynolds. “With a new year, new team and new field I am incredibly excited to see what is in store for us in 2012 as we enter into a great transition phase for the program.”
Five non-conference games kick off the season including the season opener at Guilford on February 25 and a Spring Break trip to face Swarthmore in Clearwater, Fla., on March 6. Marymount then heads back home for their first contest at Long Bridge Park against Washington & Jefferson and Sweet Briar on back-to-back days on March 10 and 11.
Other non-conference games include a road tilt at Susquehanna in March and the home finale against Bridgewater (Va.) on April 25.
The Saints open Capital Athletic Conference play against Stevenson on March 17 as part of one of two doubleheaders with the men’s team. Marymount also hosts St. Mary’s (Md.), York (Pa.) and Frostburg State in league play. Closing out the conference slate in grand fashion, the Saints take on both defending CAC champions Salisbury and rival Mary Washington on the road.
Just a year removed from missing out on its first CAC Tournament in program history, MU aims for a return to the postseason with the first round of the league tournament on April 21. Semifinals are set for April 24 while the finals are slated for April 28.
