Swimming Splits with York

York, Pa. – Marymount University’s women’s swimming team picked up its first win of the season with a107-98 victory over Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) while the men’s squad was narrowly edged out by the Spartans 104-93.

On the women’s side, the Saints opened with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay as the team of Kim Rizzo, Jessica Hester, Lea Mazzoccoli and Jackie Finn posted a 2:03.26 to finish less than two seconds behind the Spartans.

Going into individual races, Bridget Wunderly swam a 11:44.15 to finish second in the 1000 Freestyle while Casey Thomas also place second in the 200 Freestyle in 2:05.58. The Saints then earned their first top finish in the 50 Freestyle as Katie Moran swam a 25.67 while Taylor Hood place third with a time of 27.42.

Kim Rizzo place second in the 200 IM in 2:25.50 before Marymount swept the 100 Butterfly. Wunderly finished first with a time of 1:04.25, followed by Finn in second at 1:06.77 and Mazzoccoli third in 1:07.74.

Marymount went 1-2 in the 100 Freestyle as Thomas edged teammate Moran 56.90 to 57.07. Rizzo then won the 100 Backstroke in 49.57.

Wunderly won her second heat of the day with a 5:39.49 in the 500 Freestyle while Katie Scott placed third in the 5:51.63. Hester then added the Saints final victory of the day in the 100 Breaststroke in 58.87 before the team of Moran, Mazzoccoli, Finn and Thomas wrapped up the day with a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:44.60.

On the men’s side, Dennis D’Abbraccio finished third in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 11:57.40 before Joseph Garder won the 200 Freestyle in 1:52.43 and Tom Baroz was third with a time of 1:53.35. The Saints also went 1-3 in the 50 Freestyle as AJ Dunn won the event in 25.67 and Nigel Patterson was third in 27.42.

Greg Shumaker placed second in the 200 IM in 2:15.95 while Baroz was second in the 100 Butterfly in 58.88. Marymount swept the 100 Freestyle as Dunn won his second event in 56.90, Will Baroz was second in 57.07 and Lavelle Perry third in 57.66.

The Saints added another win in the 500 Freestyle as Tom Baroz posted a 5:17.38 before Shumaker won the 100 Breaststroke in 1:14.36 and Dunn was third at 1:16.66. Marymount wrapped up the meet with a victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay as the team of Patterson, D’Abbraccio, Christian Vestermark and Jeff D’Angelo posted a time of 1:48.13.

Marymount returns to action on Saturday at Salisbury in CAC action.
