Men’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Greensboro
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team dropped its opening game of the 2010 MU-Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament 72-70 to visiting Greensboro on Friday night. The Saints outshot and hit more field goals the Pride but a last second half court shot sailed high over the backboard to seal the win for Greensboro.
Freshman Reed Scott had a breakout game for the Saints (0-2), tying a game-high with 17 points and narrowly missing out on a double-double with nine rebounds. Stephen Simoneau added 11 points while Keenan Brown and Mac Kennedy chipped in 10 apiece.
Brown was solid at the point for MU dishing out a game-best eight assists while three other Saints added three dimes.
Marymount outshot the Pride 56 percent to 46.4 percent and was stellar from three-point range with a hot 62.5 percent. The Saints converted 28 field goals to Greensboro’s 26 but the Pride went to the line 10 more times than MU and hit seven more free throws than their hosts.
Darren Dexter and Lewis Owenby both tallied 17 points for the Pride (2-1) while Luqman Tijani added 16. Dexter had a double-double with 10 boards to go with a contest-best five steals.
