Women’s Basketball Falls at Stevenson
Owings Mills, Md. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team dropped its first game of 2012 with a 52-50 loss at Stevenson in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints fall to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Julie Tomesheski led the Saints with a game-high 17 points while Dominique Dickens added a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
A back-and-forth game that saw eight lead changes and seven ties, the contest came down to the final possessions. Trading leads in the waning moments, the Saints took a 50-49 lead with 18 second remaining on a pair of free throws from Dickens.
Stevenson would convert a pair of free throws on the next possession to take a 51-50 lead and force an MU turnover next time down the court. Making just one of two free throws with five ticks remaining, the Mustangs survived a last second three-point attempt by the Saints for the win that missed the mark.
Marymount fell to Stevenson despite outshooting and outrebounding its host on the day. The Saints hauled down 42 rebounds compared to just 27 for the Mustangs but turned the ball over 12 more times than SU.
Sam Murray led the Mustangs with 14 points.
Marymount returns to the hardwood on the road Wednesday at Wesley in CAC action.
