Women’s Swimming Third After First Day of CAC Championships, Men Fifth
St. Mary’s City, Md. – Marymount University’s women’s swimming team finished the first day of the Capital Athletic Conference Championships in third place while the men’s squad was fifth. The Saints women posted 130 points while the men’s team collected 78.
On the women’s side, Katie Moran was the Saints top finisher with a silver medal in the 50 freestyle. She swam a time of 24.52 in the finals, just .28 seconds off the winning time. Casey Thomas finished just short of the medal stand with a fourth place showing.
Kim Rizzo placed eighth in the 200 IM, Bridget Wunderly and Katie Scott were 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 500 freestyle and Angelina Goidas was 15th in the 200 IM.
Marymount was also solid in both relays on the day. Moran, Thomas, Taylor Hood and Jackie Finn opened the meet with a third place showing in the 200 freestyle relay. Rizzo, Wunderly, Thomas and Emily Wagner wrapped up the day with another third place finish in the 400 medley relay.
On the men’s side, Tom Baroz finished 13th in the 500 freestyle, Joseph Gardner and Greg Shumaker were 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 200 IM while Matt Ward placed 13th in the 50 freestyle with Nigel Patterson following in 16th place.
The Saints placed fifth in both relays. Ward, Shumaker, Patterson and Will Baroz teamed up in the 200 freestyle relay while Ward, Gardner, Shumaker and Tom Baroz joined up for the 400 medley relay.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday for the second day of the CAC Championships.
