Women’s Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Finale
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team fell 17-11 to visiting Guilford in its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Saints drop to 7-5 overall.
Taylor Johnson led Marymount with three goals while Jacki Belker, Stephanie Keane and Molly Maher each added two. Megan McGuirk and Mary Ellen Whitlock both posted lone goals for the Blue and White.
Belker and McGuirk also added an assist each.
Marymount opened the game up 3-1 at the 13:30 mark and held the Quakers scoreless for the first 16 minutes of the contest. Guilford (13-1) would then score six of the next seven goals before a Johnson score pulled the Saints within two down 7-5 with 1:05 remaining in the half. The Quakers responded with two goals in the final minute of the stanza to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Guilford scored an early goal to reach double figures and held the Saints to just six goals the rest of the way. Marymount would pull within five on three different occasions in the half but couldn’t chip away at any more of the deficit.
Stephanie Flood led the Saints with six draw controls while Chelsea Ritter added four. Belker and McGuirk both had three ground balls while Cecilia Pasquale caused two turnovers to pace MU’s defense.
In goal, Kiki Niebuhr collected 13 saves.
Lily Colley led Guilford with six goals.
