Story and photos by Bob Brown '15
On Sunday, April 28, more than 100 members of the Marymount and Arlington communities gathered for walk-a-thon to raise awareness of childhood cancer and funds to support St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The walk was organized by the women’s basketball team and spearheaded by Katelyn Fischer, captain of the team. Fischer, a senior majoring in business administration, planned the event in honor her friend, Keeley Imel, who was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 14 and passed away in April 2012. Katelyn said, “St. Jude's was able to give her almost five more years of life with her friends and family.”
With Keeley and many others in mind, the team began raising funds and recruiting walkers. They far surpassed their goal of $5,000, raising $6,978 for St. Jude’s. PHOTO CAPTIONS
