Larry Hoffman has joined Marymount as executive director of the University’s Reston Center. He is responsible for management of the Center, which is committed to providing adult learners with opportunities to advance their knowledge and careers. He will also oversee outreach to area businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to develop partnerships for customized educational programs.
Hoffman comes to Marymount from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, where he was director of Graduate Marketing and Admissions for four years. Previously, he held a variety of positions in public broadcasting, including director of Communications for Maryland Public Television and, earlier, for New Hampshire Public Television. He has also served as communications manager for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in Washington, DC.
Enthusiastic about the ways that Marymount’s Reston Center can serve the community, Hoffman says, “I’m excited about the diversity of programs that we offer in fields from business administration, human resources, and health information management to education and interior design.” He adds, “I’m looking forward to partnering with area businesses, organizations, and schools to provide on-site education and professional development programs for employees that address their specific needs. Medical offices, for example, are facing new requirements for computerized patient records. Marymount’s programs in health information technology and management can help them make the transition.”
Hoffman’s bachelor’s degree is from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, and he has a Master of Mass Communications from the University of South Carolina. A member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals, he has also served as vice president of Maryland Graduate Admissions Professionals.
