Women’s Hoops Evens Record with Fifth-Straight Win

Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Frostburg, Md. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team wrapped up the road portion of its regular season schedule with a 78-69 victory over Frostburg State on Wednesday night. With the win, the Saints even their record to 12-12 on the year and 9-6 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Four Saints scored in double-figures led by Katelyn Fischer with a game-high 25 points. Jackie Bohenek, Dominique Dickens and Julie Tomesheski each added 13 while Tynisha Parks grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Marymount took control down low, outrebounding the Bobcats and outscoring FSU 34-24 in the paint. The Saints also took advantage of 18 Frostburg State (5-19, 3-12 CAC) miscues to outscore their hosts 25-15 off turnovers.

A close first half saw five combined ties and lead changes before a late 18-0 run in the opening frame put the Saints up 30-14. Frostburg State wouldn’t let things get much more out of reach as MU eventually took a 35-25 lead into halftime.

The Saints would push their lead to as many as 15 in the second half before the Bobcats rallied to pull within two at 47-45 with 10 minutes to play. Marymount answered back with a 10-0 run to create a comfortable cushion for the win.

Elaina Hummel led the Bobcats with 18 points while Elizabeth Erickson added 17 and Stephanie Straka had 12. Erickson tallied a double-double with 13 boards.

Marymount returns to the friendly confines of the Verizon Sports Arena on Saturday as it hosts Stevenson in the regular season finale. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.marymount.edu/athletics/wBasketball and selecting the “live stats” and “live video” links.
