Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener with a 1-0 loss to visiting Wesley on Tuesday night. The Saints fall to 2-3-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in league play.
Wesley (4-1-0, 1-0-0 CAC) put the lone goal of the night on the board in the 20th minute despite the Saints defense holding their visitors to just three shots in the frame. The MU backline of Krysti Patient, Eva DeLeon, Jillian Goldstein and Danni Bankins held the Wolverines to nine shots in the game and just four on target all evening.
Victoria Wyand hauled in three saves for the Saints in the loss.
Marymount would have its chances to respond in the second frame including narrowly missing a penalty kick inches left with just over five minutes to play. Undeterred, the Saints made a final push down the stretch including a trio of corner kicks with under a minute left but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Marymount returns to action on the road Saturday at Greensboro.
