Sunday, May 01, 2011
Arlington, Va. - Long-time Marymount University women’s basketball head coach and athletics director Bill Finney and former Saints standouts Rob Harris, Chris Ann Becki Strahan and Sharee McClellan Gates were inducted into the Marymount University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Also inducted to the Hall of Friends was Judy Finney, former sports information director and senior woman administrator at Marymount.

Bill Finney compiled a 553-193 record over 27 years at Marymount. His teams won 11 Capital Athletic Conference Championships and made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances with one Final Four, one Elite Eight and seven Sweet 16 finishes. Two of his teams won national scoring titles, averaging 92.4 points per game in 1992-93 and 89.4 points per game in 1993-94.

Rob Harris was on the first Marymount basketball team that played in the CAC and won the school’s first ever men’s basketball regular season conference championship in 1991-92. That same year, he helped lead the team to a CAC Tournament runner-up finish and was named Second Team All-CAC for his efforts. Upon graduation in 1991, Harris was the Saints’ all-time leader in rebounds, blocks and field goal shooting as well as second leading scorer.

Chris Ann Becki Strahan was the first Marymount volleyball player to join the elite 1,000/1,000 club. In her four years with the Saints, Strahan recorded 1,141 kills and 1,337 digs to go with 276 service aces. Upon completing her stellar career in 1997, she held the program mark in all three categories as well as games played with 509. On the court, Strahan was a two-time All-CAC performer and led the Saints to their first 20-win season as a junior in 1996.

Sharee McClellan Gates was a two-sport standout at Marymount. A three-time First Team All-CAC honoree in women’s soccer, she earned First Team All-CAC accolades in women’s basketball as a senior. As a senior, she set the CAC record for steals in a season with 152, a mark that still stands to this day. Gates also won four CAC titles and two national scoring titles with the Saints.
