Women’s Lacrosse Earns First CAC Victory
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team returned to its winning ways with a 24-19 victory over Wesley in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday night. With the win, the Saints snap a six-game losing streak and pick up their first league win of the season.
Tancy Weatherford led the Saints (4-7, 1-4 CAC) with seven goals while Stephanie Flood and Lindsay Quinn added five each. Katie Dean chipped in a hat trick with three goals, Rachel Duff added a pair while Lindsay Bullock and Chelsea Ritter added lone scores. Ritter led all players with four assists.
Defensively, Lourdes Lanzas and Erika Dommes split time in goal and combined for 11 saves. Lanzas had four in the opening frame while Dommes hauled in seven in the second half.
Wesley (5-8, 1-6 CAC) scored the first goal of the game but it was all Marymount after that. The Saints hit four unanswered goals and scored six of the next seven to take a 6-2 lead before eventually going into halftime up 14-9.
In the second, the Wolverines opened on a 4-2 run to cut the MU lead to just three before the Saints responded with seven of the next eight goals over the next 20 minutes to put the game away.
Mia Brocco led the Wolverines with five goals, four of them coming on free position shots. Alyssa Prudente added four while Jen Jacobs chipped in three.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday on the road at defending national champions and second-ranked Salisbury.
